Our Values

Intimacy With God

Christianity is about relationship not religion. God wants from you what nobody else can give Him: your devotion.

“Come, let us bow down in worship. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God.” Psalm 95:6

“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.” Isaiah 55:6

Authentic Relationships

Somewhere along the way, church became known as a place where people must “fake” their way through life. However, we value creating an environment where there are no masks. You don’t have to fake it. We want you to be able to be real about where you are in life. We aren’t interested in being a church where a lot of people get together for an inspiring service but never move beyond the causal relationship of an auditorium.

“We loved you so much that we gave you not only God’s Good News, but our very lives as well.” 1 Thessalonians 2:8

“So put away all falsehood and tell your neighbor the truth, because we belong to each other.” Ephesians 4:25

Life Transformation

Hillside Church is a place for people on every part of the spiritual journey, from those just investigating whether there is a God, to those who have made following Christ the priority of their life. This is a safe place for everyone. But safe doesn’t mean serene. The Bible presents a dangerous message of life change. We expect every person to be moving closer to being the complete image of Christ in every area of life. This is not always a comfortable process. In fact we often grow only when we are pushed out of our comfort zones.

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God continually transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.”Romans 12:2

“You must display a new nature because you are a new person, created in God’s likeness-righteous, holy and true.” Ephesians 4:24

God’s Unique Design of People

Although we desire unity, we never expect uniformity. We celebrate the uniqueness of each person. The Bible compares the church to the body of Christ. Each person plays a vital part in our church. When Hillside Church is functioning as the body of Christ, we are in effect the closest thing to Christ that a watching world will see until His return.

“He is the one who gave these gifts to us to be apostles, prophets, evangelists and pastors and teachers, to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.” Ephesians 4:12

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things that he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10

Community Impact

We understand that God’s calling on our church is to go beyond just serving inside the walls of our church. We are constantly looking for opportunities to honor God by serving others.

“You are the light of the world-like a city on a mountain glowing in the night for all to see.” Matthew 5:14

“When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere-in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:7

“You must display a new nature because you are a new person, created in God’s likeness-righteous, holy and true.” Ephesians 4:24

Sacrificial Living

We are learning that the Christian life is not about “us.” We have been given life to exalt Jesus as our supreme treasure and we show that value by what we are willing to risk or sacrifice to have more of Him.

“All the believers were of one heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. Selling their possessions and goods they gave to anyone as they had need.” Acts 2:44; 4:32

Core Beliefs

What We Believe

We believe in God. Not just any god, but THE God of the universe. The same God that created this earth. The same God that spoke light into existence. The same God that created each and every star, and hung them in place. The same God that loved us so much that He eternally defeated death and gave us hope through Jesus Christ. The same God that not only ransomed us from our sins, but also gives us a “better life than we ever dreamed” (John 10:10).

Hillside exists to make this God famous one life at a time

About God

We believe in one God. The same God who created the entire universe and everything that’s in it. We believe God is loving, fair, perfect, all-powerful, all-knowing, and is eternally present in three distinct persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Genesis 1, Psalm 90:2; Isaiah 43:10-13, Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14, 1 Peter 1:2

“So put away all falsehood and tell your neighbor the truth, because we belong to each other.” Ephesians 4:25

About Jesus

We believe Jesus is the Son of God. He lived a sinless life and voluntarily died on the cross in our place as full payment for the sins of all people. But, unlike anyone else throughout history, Jesus defeated the power of sin and death by rising from the dead. After he appeared to over 500 people, Jesus ascended into Heaven to provide access and reconciliation between God and people. When God has fulfilled his purpose with this earth, He will send Jesus to return and reign Lord of all.

About The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the comforter, counselor and helper sent for all believers. He also makes people aware of their need for God and draws people into that relationship. We also believe the Holy Spirit, which lives within us at the moment of salvation, provides guidance for doing what is right and understanding for spiritual truth.
John 14:16-17; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13-14

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things that he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10

About The Bible

We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by God to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error, and is the source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. The Bible’s truth is timeless and speaks to our everyday lives.
Psalm 119:105,160; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 1:13; 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21

About The Christian Life

We believe that every Christian should live for Christ and not for himself. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Holy Spirit, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Jesus.
Deuteronomy 6:5; Proverbs 3:5-6; Mark 12:29-31; Acts 17:2, Romans 12:2; 1 Corinthians 8 & 9, 10:23-11:1

About Salvation

We believe every person is disobedient to God’s desires and plans in varying degrees. Any disobedience to God, regardless of how large or small, is characterized as “sin.” Sin literally separates each person from God, which is spiritual death and is not God’s desire. People can be united with God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and Him alone. Jesus died for sinners. Anyone who accepts and believes in Jesus’ death for their personal sins, and desires to have Him as King of their life, is forgiven for every sin. Upon this personal decision, God re-establishes a personal relationship with that person and promises eternal life.
John 1:12-13, 14:6-7; Romans 3:23, 5:1, 8, 10:9-10; Galatians 3:26; Titus 3:5

About The Church

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of a local church is to organize Christians to reach unbelievers with the message of salvation, serve as a corporate body for worship of God, provide fellowship for Christians with each other, develop the gifts and talents of Christians for godly service, and practice baptism and communion.
